인간은 인생에서 다양한 관계를 맺어가면서 살아간다. 이러한 과정 가운데 인간은 관계 안에서의 변화와 성장을 경험하기도 한다. 본고는 특히 상담자와 내담자라는 특수한 관계 안에서 변화와 성장이 어떻게 이루어질 수 있는지에 관해 조명하였다. 이는 상담 관계 또는 치료적 관계라고 불리는 특수한 관계로 상담 장면에서 상담자와 내담자의 상호작용 가운데 맺어지는 변화를 일으키는 관계이다. 내담자는 주 양육자로부터 시작하여 삶에서 다양한 관계를 맺어가는 가운데 관계 안에서의 상처나 외상을 경험하면서 살아간다. 내담자가 상담자를 처음 만나는 순간부터 맺어지는 치료적 관계는 내담자의 과거의 경험으로부터의 관계 문제를 지금-여기의 관점에서 새로이 풀어나가는 관계라고 볼 수 있다. 이는 상담자가 보이는 수용적 태도와 함께 안전한 환경으로서의 분위기를 조성해 나가는 것을 포함하는데, 내담자는 이러한 치료적 관계 안에서 변화와 성장을 경험해 나갈 수 있다. 이를 바탕으로 내담자의 변화와 성장이 치료적 관계 안에서 어떻게 이루어질 수 있을지에 관해 논하였다.
Abstract
Human lives his/her life within various relationships. Human experiences transformation and growth in these various relationships. This study illuminated how transformation and growth can be achieved in the specific relationship between counselor and client. This specific relationship refers to the counseling relationship or therapeutic relationship which causes changes through interaction between counselor and client in the counseling setting. Clients live their lives through experiencing relational wounds or traumas from main caregiver to other various relationships. The therapeutic relationship, which starts as client meets counselor at the first time, is the new relationship that is aimed to resolve relational problems from the client’s past experiences in the perspective of here-and-now. This includes accepting attitudes of the counselor and creating secure environment. Therefore, the client can experience transformation and growth through this therapeutic relationship. This study discussed how the transformation and growth of client can be achieved in the therapeutic relationship.
