Abstract
This article aims to discuss the language and space created by power, questioning the notion of “undesirables” to those who categorize anyone who opposes them or doesn’t fit with their view of what’s acceptable in anticipation of a future increase in the population. In particular, I would like to discuss the textual reproduction of space at a particular time inherent in the meaning of the word, from the Third Reich to the present day at the Tempelhof site in Berlin, Germany. The Tempelhof has been used for many purposes, from an airport to a concentration camp and a labor camp during the Third Reich. Since the closure of the airport, it has been used in part as a refugee camp since 2015. Thus, the Tempelhof has been criticized as the only continuous “becoming” never “being.” For this reason, the former airport has been called the “Palimpsest of History.” A palimpsest, reused parchment with faint original writings still visible underneath the new text. However, because it is a place of becoming, the Tempelhof can represent the possibility of surpassing the architectural objective, namely inclusion into the interior. In this regard, the Tempelhof has complex symbols and narratives that are difficult to compare with any other historical site.
