Abstract
The aim of this paper is to discuss the merits of aging through the “creative aging model” and to come up with a guideline for life in the age of 100. Accepting the creative aging model allows us to look into the benefits of aging and make the elderly a necessary being in society. In this article, I discuss wisdom among the qualities of the elderly as a basis for thinking like this. To this end, I first compare Hume's “progressive sentiment” model with “developmental intelligence,” and then show that Hume's “progressive sentiment” allows wisdom to be viewed as a strength of old age. Next, I suggest a new meaning for old age in the 100-year-old age by comparing Hume's "calm passion" and discussions on moderation with Thornstam's "Gerotranscendence" model.
