초록
This study examines the role and challenges of women fishers in Ghana’s fisheries industry, focusing on their contributions to the fishery value chain. Women play a critical role in post-harvest processing, distribution, and sales, significantly impacting household income and local economies. However, their contributions remain undervalued due to limited resource access, informal employment, and exclusion from decision-making. Additionally, issues such as overfishing, climate change, and Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing threaten their economic stability. This study proposes policy measures to empower women fishers, including financial and technological support, stronger legal frameworks, improved resource access, and cooperative development. While offering key insights, this study is limited by the lack of quantitative data and cross-country comparisons. Future research should integrate data-driven approaches to evaluate the economic impact of women fishers and develop sustainable policies recognizing them as vital actors in Ghana’s fisheries sector.
