본고에서는 12～13세기 스페인에서의 기독교도들과 비기독교도들간의 성행위 규제를 재정복과 기독교 팽창의 역사적 상황과 관련시켜 살펴보고 있다. 다른 기독교 사회와는 달리 중세 스페인에서 종교간 성행위에 대한 규제는 재정복 시기 이베리아 반도의 다문화적 사회와 깊은 관련이 있다. 12세기 이후 성적 통제 정책이 전면에 나타난 것은 종교간 성행위에 대한 인식과 태도에서 감성적 변화가 일어났음을 보여준다. 중세 스페인 사회에서 비기독교도들과의 성행위 규제에 법의 이중 잣대가 적용된 것은 재정복 과정에서 군사적 남성성이 극단적으로 강조되었다는 사실과, 재정복 지역의 이교도 여성들에 대한 개종과 맞물려 있다. 이는 종교간 성행위가 본질적으로 권력과 종교, 섹슈얼리티와 서로 유기적으로 연동되어 진행되었음을 보여준다. 종교간 성행위는 지배와 종속의 권력 관계를 반영할 뿐 아니라 기독교 팽창의 도구로 기능한다.
Abstract
This articles examines the regulations of sexual intercourse between Christians and non-Christians with relation to historical circumstances of the so-called reconquista. The sexual control of Jews and Muslims is closely related to the multicultural societies in Medieval Spain. The tight control over interfaith sexual relations from the late twelfth century onward means that the emotional changes occurred in Christian attitudes towards interfaith sex. The double standards of the law to sexual intercourse with non-Christians are linked to the extreme emphasis of military manlihood and the conversion of infidel women. Interfaith sex reflects the power relation of dominance and subordination and functions as the tool for Christian expansion.
