Abstract
This research focuses on the ’finding a family’ behavior of second generation Koreans in Japan seeking to find their family members, and describes the micro-history of immigration of Koreans in Japan and the current family consciousness of Koreans living on the Korean Peninsula. ‘Family search’ behavior is the practice of reconnecting families separated by colonial history. This appears paradoxical to Koreans in Japan, who are mainly discussed as being localized and Japanese. However, their motivation for finding ‘roots’ as an act of finding ‘Korean residents in Japan’was because they knew the first generation party who immigrated there. For first-generation immigrants who experienced direct migration, ‘roots’ refers to the ‘migration route’, but for those after the second generation who do not have direct migration experience, ‘roots’ refers to something that must be found. In other words, it is a practice of making their own routes so that they will not be cut off even if they continue to live as Koreans in Japan. Their practice of rebuilding their own path and passing it on to the next generation is the practice and act of ‘finding a family’. It is not an act of trying to connect with necessity, but as an act of creating a path for the future, which will provide a difference from the family discourses of the past.
