Abstract

This study investigates the longitudinal trajectories of school satisfaction and job preparation behavior among vocational high school students using pseudo-panel data collected over two years (2023–2024). Applying a multilevel growth modeling framework, the study examines how students’ perceptions of their school environment change over time and how these developmental patterns shape their engagement in job preparation activities, such as information seeking, resume development, and skills acquisition. The analysis further compares growth trajectories between specialized vocational high schools and Meister high schools to identify school-level variations in educational effectiveness. The results reveal that school satisfaction exhibits either upward or stable trajectories depending on school type and that higher levels of school satisfaction are consistently associated with more active job preparation behavior. These findings underscore the pivotal role of school experiences in fostering students’ career readiness and highlight the need to strengthen career education and support systems within vocational high schools. By demonstrating the utility of longitudinal analytic approaches for assessing school effects, this study provides empirical evidence that can inform policy efforts aimed at improving employment outcomes for vocational high school students.
