아동기 사회경제적 위기와 노년기 삶의 만족도:국민연금 소득액의 조절효과를 중심으로

Relationship between Childhood Socioeconomic Risk and Life Satisfaction in Old Age: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of the National Pension

초록

본 연구는 생애과정관점에 기반하여 아동기 사회경제적 위기 경험이 노년기 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 이에 대한 국민연금 소득액의 조절효과를 살펴보는데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 한국복지패널 1-16차 자료를 활용, 2021년 기준 만 65세 이상 3,224명을 두 코호트로 구분하여 잠재계층분석 및 회귀분석 등을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 아동기 사회경제적 위기는 아동기 주거주지, 경제적생활상태, 학업중단경험, 원가족해체경험, 부(모)학력의 위기 정도 및 양상에 따라, 저위험형, 고위험형, 경계형의 3개 유형으로 구분되며, 한국전쟁시기 아동기를 겪은 코호트1이 코호트2에 비해 저위험형이 적고 고위험형이 많게 나타나는 등 아동기 사회경제적 위기 정도가 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 두 코호트 모두에서 아동기 사회경제적 위기 유형이 노년기 삶의 만족도에 부적 영향을 미쳤으며, 저위험형 대비 고위험형일 때 노년기 삶의 만족도가 더 낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 아동기 사회경제적 위기가 노년기 삶의 만족도에 미치는 부적 효과는 국민연금 소득액에 의해 완화되었으며, 특히 저위험형 대비 경계형(코호트2) 및 고위험형(코호트1,2)에서 국민연금 소득액이 높을수록 조절효과가 강화되고 있음이 확인되었다. 이를 통해 생애초기인 아동기에 겪은 위험 경험이 노년기에도 영향을 미치는 위험축적모델의 작동을 실증하였으며, 이에 아동기 사회경제적 위기에 대한 조기개입과 더불어 특정시점의 위험이 생애후기경험으로 이어지지 않도록 전생애적 접근방식을 제안하였다. 또한, 노년기 삶의 만족도를 조절해주는 국민연금의 영향력이 아동기 사회경제적 위기 정도가 클수록, 그리고 최근 코호트에서 더 확대됨을 고려하여, 연금 수급시기 지연 및 소득대체율 하향의 개혁방향에 대한 보다 신중하고 세밀한 접근과 국민연금 사각지대에 대한 적극적인 논의를 제안하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of childhood socioeconomic risk on life satisfaction in old age and the moderating effect of national pension income from a life course perspective. First, we find that childhood socioeconomic risk is categorized into three types: low-risk, high-risk, and borderline in both cohorts, but cohort 1 has fewer low-risk cases and more high-risk cases than cohort2. Second, in both cohorts, the type of childhood socioeconomic risk has an inverse effect on life satisfaction in old age, with higher risk individuals reporting lower life satisfaction in old age. Third, the national pension moderated the negative effect of childhood socioeconomic crisis on later life satisfaction, and the moderating effect was strengthened by higher national pension income in the borderline(cohort2) and high-risk(cohort1,2) groups. This study confirms the operation of the risk accumulation model that childhood socioeconomic crisis experiences affect later life, and suggests a whole-life approach to intervene early in childhood socioeconomic crisis and prevent it from leading to later life experiences. Given that the impact of the national pension is greater for the more severe childhood socioeconomic crisis and the more recent cohort, we suggest a careful and detailed approach to the reform direction of delaying pension receipt and lowering the income replacement rate, and an active discussion on the blind spots of the national pension.
