1930년대 초 신민지 사건의 파장과 유교계의 변동

초록

In 1931, a group of Confucian intellectuals appeared in Gyeongseong, now Seoul, the capital of colonial Joseon Korea. They was very angry because of an article to insult Confucius who were regarded as a sole holy human. The article was written by a famous nationalist lawyer Lee In, and published in new year issue of New People(Shinmin). The group of Confucian intellectuals went to Gyeong-hagwoen, a affiliated organization of Japanese Colonial Government of Joseon Korea, and strongly protested why the organization didn’t respond to the incident quickly. Such a response of Confucian intellectuals symbolizes several things. It shows the Korean example of anti-Confucius campaigns which widely spread to East Asia in the early of twentieth century. A number of Confucian intellectuals participated in this issue regardless of their political orientation such as collaborators, patriots, and centrists. So, we can find their thinking and awareness in the early of 1930s. On the other hand, their protests were related to several fundamental complaints that remain unsolved. What was it?For this purpose, most of all, the article of Lee In will be analyzed. And, the statistics and contents of the circular letters criticizing the Lee In’s article will be also analyzed to know why the intellectuals got angry and how they expressed their official opinions. Two Confucian organizations were established after a large conference of Confucian intellectuals. The characteristics of the organizations is also one of the things to be checked up.

Abstract

In 1931, a group of Confucian intellectuals appeared in Gyeongseong, now Seoul, the capital of colonial Joseon Korea.
