On the Will of World Management and the Method of Literary Representation in BeonAm Chae, Jegong’s Sino-Korean Poetry

Chae, Jegong is the leader of the 18th century Namin and the prime minister for the King Jeongjo’s reign. Among the numerous poems written by Chae, there are many works with a general tendency for inter-literate friendship and travel experiences but considering his poetic achievements, the poems with the will of world management are meaningful. This article identified the will of world management as an important topic among the Chae’s Sino-Korean poetry and studied its literary representation. The will of world management in his literature can be seen as a general sense of concern for the people and the world, but it can be seen as the subjective deepening of the ancient pursuit. The antiquity of 17th century’s Namin literati was closely related to the will of world management and recreated the ancient literary form. Also it embodied the concern for the people and the world. He reproduced Dusi(poems of Du Fu) technique in his poem and connected the concern for the people and the will of world management. This inherits the tradition of Namin literati. In the poems that observes the lives of the people, he made his poem as a scene painting. As mentioned above, Chae’s tendency to create poetry was a turning point in 18th century Namin literati poetry.
