Abstract

Starting from 2017, the worldwide movement of #MeToo has brought about ethical issues related to feminism and media. The #MeToo movement is a feminist activism, a movement that utilizes the media as a platform of parrêsia, and makes it clear that the ethics of the contemporary society, in which the media are ubiquitous in daily life, cannot be simply justified. This thesis explores on the ethical issues that need to be considered in the relationship between media, feminism and Cultural Studies. First, the voices of victims resonated in the process of the #MeToo movement can be understood as Foucault's concept of parrêsia. Second, the role of media as a direct momentum and basis for the initiation and spread of the #MeToo movement is discussed, focusing on the case of hashtag feminism. Third, the theoretical positions and the ways in which media ethics and ethics of media studies need to take in considering the relationship between feminist movement and media are discussed. Through these explorations, this paper argues that the ethical attitude posed by the #MeToo movement is not an application of definite and assertive moral discipline, but a continuous process of thinking about ambivalence in an ethical dilemma
