Abstract
This study examined the effect of network agenda-setting by analyzing the news and comments on YouTube related to the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge issue. For this purpose, semantic network analysis and QAP analysis were conducted on news videos and comment data collected from YouTube during the period before and after the discharge in 2023. In addition, major keywords were extracted through morphological analysis, and agenda attribute networks were derived based on correlation coefficients. The role of sentiment in agenda-setting effect was also explored by classifying negative comments with an artificial neural network model. The results show that the agenda attribute networks between media outlets and the commenting public were significantly correlated, and the agenda-setting effect was further strengthened after the release. The agenda-setting effect of affective news was lower than that of cognitive news, and the effect decreased sharply after the discharge. This study is significant in that it systematically analyzed the effects of sentiment and uncertainty on agenda setting in today’s social media environment.
