Abstract

During the establishment and destruction of the Wiman Joseon Dynasty(衛滿朝鮮), which was a very chaotic period, many residents moved to the central and southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The story of King Jun(準王) going south after losing to Wiman(衛滿) is recorded in various documents. The details are different and it is difficult to trust only one story, but the common point is that the group that lost the power struggle with Wiman during the establishment of the Wiman Joseon Dynasty moved to the central and southern part of the Korean Peninsula, and this seems to be true. During the fall of the Wiman Dynasty, there was a record that the inhabitants moved to Jinguk(辰國) and The Jinhan(辰韓), and it was also said that the refugees formed Jinhan. In Chinese historical sources, Jinguk was the name of an unknown world farther east than Wiman Joseon at that time. And after the Lelang Commandery(樂浪郡) was established, the area began to be referred to as 'Han(韓)' and 'Samhan(三韓)'. Although it was emphasized in Chinese records that there were many refugees from Jin(秦) and Yan(燕)‧Qi(齊) for the residents who formed Jinhan, in reality, the people who formed Jinhan were the refugees who came down to the south during the collapse of Wiman Joseon, and are recorded as 'Joseon refugees' in the Samguksagi(三國史記). There are various relics that show the exchanges between Wiman Joseon and the central and southern regions of the Korean Peninsula and the migration of the residents of Wiman Joseon. By examining the material culture of the central region of the Korean Peninsula, it can be confirmed that the Joseon refugees moved to Jinhan, the southern region through Jinguk, the central region of the Korean Peninsula.
