Abstract
In FangYan(方言), a language dictionary of the Han Dynasty, compiled in the late pre-Han(漢) dynasty, 60 words of the ‘Joseon-Ryeolsu(朝鮮洌水)’ and ‘Northern Yan(北燕)’ regions, which had been former territory of the Gojoseon Kingdom, were included. On the linguistic identity of vocabulary of the 'Northern Yan-Joseon dialect area' which has been classified as one common language region because there were so many common vocabularies between Northern Yan region and Joseon-Ryeolsu region, a assertion to regard it as words of ancient Chinese language and the theory to view it as words of Gojoseon language are seriously opposed, One main proof for the ancient Chinese view is that 咺, a common word of the 'Northern Yan-Joseon dialect area', is considered to be originated and spreaded to the Joseon region from mainland China as a dialect of ancient Chinese before BC 3 century in the warring states period. But considering the method of recording the non-Chinese language vocabulary in FangYan, examples of 咺 in the ancient literature before FangYan, and contents to describe 咺 in representative ancient dictionaries after FangYan like SuoWonJieZi(說文解字) and YuPian(玉篇), it is more resonable to view ‘咺’ as a vocabulary of Gojoseon Language rather than that of ancient Chinese. Therefore, based on the linguistic identity of 咺, it seems that the assertion to view vocabulary of Gojoseon region listed in FangYan as dialect of ancient Chinese should be reconsidered and withdrawn.
