Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between older adults' (65+ years) the digital divide and their life satisfaction by digital device types (PC versus Mobile). The present study used data from the Digital Divide Survey 2018. We analyzed the structural relationship between digital skills and Internet use (second-level digital divide) and a third-level digital divide in which the outcomes of Internet use and life satisfaction. As a result, there are significant differences between older adults' digital skills and Internet use by digital devices types, and older adults' mobile Internet skills and use are relatively higher than those of PCs. In both PCs and mobile devices, the results show that older adults' digital skills have a positive effect on the Internet use. The results indicate that the use of the Internet using PCs and mobile devices have a positive effect on the outcomes of Internet use and their life satisfaction, however their digital skills, in both PCs and mobile devices, have not effect on the outcomes of Internet use and life satisfaction. The results show that the outcomes of Internet use, in both PC and mobile devices, have a positive effect on the life satisfaction of older adults. Based on the results, this study suggested the theoretical and policy implications for improving older adults' digital skills, use, and their life satisfaction.
