고령자의 거주지역 차이가 주관적 행복감에 미치는 영향: 전남 고령자의 ‘농촌 행복의 역설’을 중심으로

현대 사회에서 삶의 질과 행복은 정부의 공공서비스와 정책 효과를 평가하는 중요한 기준으로 자리 잡 고 있으며, 정부가 추구해야 할 주요 정책목표로 인식되고 있다. 특히 고령화가 심화되는 상황에서 고령자 의 행복 형성 요인을 규명하는 것은 중요한 정책적 과제로 부상하고 있다. 본 연구는 거주지역이 고령자의 주관적 행복감에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 공동체 의식의 매개효과와 가구소득의 조절된 매개효과를 검증 하였다. ｢2024년 전라남도 사회조사｣ 자료를 활용한 분석 결과, 농촌지역 고령자는 도시지역에 비해 공 동체 의식이 더 높았으며, 이는 주관적 행복감에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 거 주지역의 직접효과는 유의하지 않아 공동체 의식을 통한 완전매개 구조가 확인되었다. 또한 공동체 의식 의 효과는 가구소득 수준에 따라 차이를 보여 저소득 집단에서 더욱 크게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 농촌 행복의 역설이 사회적 관계를 통해 설명될 수 있음을 시사하며, 공동체 기반 정책의 중요성을 제시한다.
Abstract
In contemporary society, quality of life and happiness have become important criteria for evaluating government public services and policy effectiveness, and are recognized as key policy goals. In the context of rapid population aging, identifying the determinants of older adults’ happiness has emerged as an important policy issue. This study examines the effect of residential area on the subjective well-being of older adults and investigates the mediating role of sense of community as well as the moderated mediating effect of household income. Using data from the 2024 Jeollanam-do Social Survey, the results show that older adults in rural areas exhibit a higher level of sense of community than those in urban areas, which in turn has a significant positive effect on subjective well-being. In contrast, the direct effect of residential area was not significant, indicating a full mediation through sense of community. In addition, the effect of sense of community on subjective well-being was moderated by household income, with a stronger effect observed among low-income groups. These findings suggest that the rural happiness paradox can be explained by social relationships and highlight the importance of community-based policies for enhancing the well-being of older adults.
