This paper analyzes some demographics to understand the geographical distribution of central towns in rural Korea. Population is strongly correlated with the density of firms in the retail sale and service sectors in rural areas. The census data indicate a great gap between the underpopulated rural areas and the others in the distribution of central towns. The less the population of rural areas is, the more difficult the residents gain access to the services which they need in daily life. Government's special effort is needed for the residents to live in better rural settlements.
