The purpose of this study was to identify factors revitalizing rural schools. For the purpose, this study investigated the current status of rural schools, reviewed rural school-related literature, surveyed eighty five rural schools and performed a case study of five revitalized rural schools. Case study and survey indicate that revitalization of rural schools depends on principals' leadership, teachers' passion and speciality, community participation in school, and community-based school programs: Rural school principal's leadership makes the revitalization start; teachers' passion and speciality make the revitalization real; parents and community participation make the revitalization last; and community-based school programs make the revitalization meaningful to community.
