청소년 비행의 발달궤적 : 비행여부와 비행수준을 구분한 이원 잠재성장모델의 적용

본 연구의 목적은 비행여부 및 비행수준을 구분하여 청소년 비행의 종단적 발달궤적을 알아보는데 있었다. 중학교 2학년 청소년 3,449명에 대한 5년 종단자료에 이원 잠재성장모델(two-part latent growth curve model)을 적용하여 비행여부의 발달궤적과 비행수준의 발달궤적, 그리고 각각의 성장요인에 대한 예측요인의 효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과, 중2에서 고3에 이르는 동안 청소년들의 비행유병율은 감소하였으나 감소폭이 점차 작아졌다. 한편 청소년 비행수준의 경우 중2에서 고1까지는 감소, 고1에서 고3까지는 증가하는 변화율을 나타냈지만 유의미한 수준은 아니었다. 청소년의 성별, 자아통제력, 낙인감, 및 비행친구는 비행여부 및 비행수준의 발달궤적에 모두 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 그 영향력은 비행여부 및 비행수준에 따라 그리고 청소년의 발달단계에 따라 차이가 있었다. 따라서 비행을 시작하지 않도록 하기 위한 비행예방전략과 비행수준을 낮추기 위한 탈비행전략은 그 실천적 접근에서 차별화될 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 의의 및 후속연구에 대한 제언이 논의되었다.
Abstract
While a large body of research consistently examines the growth trajectory of delinquent behaviors, the prevalence and frequency of delinquency have not been explicitly distinguished. Utilizing a sample of 3,449 eighth‐graders followed over 5 years, a two‐part latent growth modeling strategy was used to examine longitudinal changes in both the prevalence and frequency of delinquent behaviors. The results of this study indicated that there was a quadratic decrease in the prevalence of delinquency whereas no significant change was found in the frequency of delinquency. Gender, self‐control, labeling, and delinquent friends had significant effects on growth trajectories for both the prevalence and frequency of delinquent behaviors, whereas the effect size differed across the growth factors of either the prevalence or frequency of delinquency. These findings emphasized the need for differential interventions for those adolescents who had never engaged in any delinquent behaviors and for those who had previously engaged in delinquency.
