청소년의 커뮤니케이션 이용 유형이 이들의 정치사회적 의식과 참여에 미치는 영향

초록

최근 인터넷을 중심으로 청소년들의 정치사회적 참여 현상이 활발히 일어나고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 정치 및 사회 문제에 대한 의사소통과 정보습득이 청소년들의 정치사회적 의식과 참여에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 관찰하였다. 전반적으로 청소년 응답자들은 정치 및 사회 문제와 관련된 의사소통을 위해서 면대면 대화보다는 다양한 매스커뮤니케이션 수단들에 상대적으로 많이 의존하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 커뮤니케이션 이용 수준은 정치사회적 의식에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데, 특히 정치사회적 이슈와 관련된 커뮤니케이션 정도가 높을수록 청소년들은 보다 진보적 정치의식을 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 끝으로 청소년들의 정치사회적 커뮤니케이션 정도는 이들의 정치적 참여와도 밀접한 관련성을 보였다. 본 연구결과는 청소년들의 정치적 정보습득과 의사소통 과정에 대한 체계적인 분석을 실시함으로써 이들의 정치의식과 참여를 예측하고 이해하기 위한 기초자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

Recently, adolescents are participating more actively in politics via the Internet. This study investigated internet communication and information gathering activities by adolescents on political issues and analyzed the impact it had on their political perceptions and participation. Overall, the respondents relied more on mass communication than interpersonal communication for political communication. The communication level also had positive effects on their ideological propensity toward liberalism. Finally, adolescents’political communication promoted their political and social participation. These findings will provide basic data for anticipating and understanding political perceptions and participation on the part of adolescents.
