본 연구는 한국의 청소년 수련활동의 역사적 배경으로서 신라 화랑도의 수련활동 이념, 목표 그리고 수련활동 체계에 대한 분석이다. 화랑도수련활동은 하늘에 제사를 지내는 제천행사에 뿌리를 두고 있으며, 덕․체․지를 갖춘 올바른 인간상을 구현하기 위한 덕목으로 화랑도는 효제충신, 오상육예, 세속오계를 배우며 다양한 프로그램의 실천을 통하여 중요한 신라인의 면모를 갖추어 나갔다. 프로그램의 내용으로는 도의를 갈고 닦아서 사회에 이바지할 수 있는 사람을 만들려 하였으며(道義相磨), 가락을 통한 정서함양과 실제로 자연 속에서 신체를 단련하고 무술 연마를 행하는 활동(歌樂相悅, 山水遊娛)들을 하였다. 또한 동해안 명산대천, 경주 단석산 신선사, 경주 송화방 등 여러 가지의 암각화를 통해서 화랑도의 수련터전을 살펴볼 수 있었으며, 스스로 교육하는 자발적인 청소년 교육기관이며 단체라고 할 수가 있다. 결국 신라인은 신분에 상관없이 누구든 자발적으로 화랑도 단체에 참여할 수 있었으며, 화랑도를 통하여 신라의 청소년들은 스스로 교육을 배울 수 있으며, 덕성을 함양할 수 있었던 것이다.
Abstract
This paper is about concept, goal, and structure of camp activity of Shilla chivalry as a historical background of youth camp activity in Korea. The code of Shilla chivalry camp activity is rooted in holding a ceremony for Heaven and practices learning through various programs for embodying the righteous human with virtue, body, and knowledge. The goal of activity programs were to make valuable people for society. The programs are composed of various activities to build feeling through the melody and to train his body in nature. The code of Shilla chivalry is an educational institute and organization of youth to study in spontaneously. Regardless of their status, all youth in Shilla could participate in the organization of the code of Shilla chivalry. By means of the code of Shilla chivalry, the youth of shilla could learn by themselves and develop their moral character. This study is the useful historical document of youth camp activity which is a critical factor in raising of youth as well as it suggests the way of youth camp activity in the near future.
