초록

Aging poses one of the most urgent biomedical challenges ofthe 21st century, increasing vulnerability to chronic diseasesand limiting healthspan in aging populations. Recent advancesin aging research are transforming our understanding of agingfrom an inevitable decline to a multidimensional andpotentially modifiable biological process. This special issuepresents five invited reviews that collectively illustrate therecent progress in aging research. These articles introduceemerging concepts that shed light on the fundamental causesof aging, including the genetic architecture underlying humanaging, senescence-driven fibrotic scarring arising from imperfecttissue repair, and the progressive erosion of epigeneticinformation in the brain. They further highlight promisingavenues for intervention—such as epigenetic rejuvenation, thebidirectional interplay between the aging gut microbiome andhost physiology, and the emergence of precision geronutrition. By integrating genetic, molecular, cellular, microbial, andnutritional perspectives, this collection emphasizes a futurewhere extending human healthspan is both realistic andscientifically attainable.
