Abstract
This study sought to investigate the effects of adolescents’ perfectionism, parent and peer attachment on depression according to gender. The results were as follows: First, male adolescents’ depression was affected (in the following order) by socially-prescribed perfectionism, self-oriented perfectionism, parent attachment and peer attachment. These variables helped account for 32.5% of male adolescents’ depression. Second, female adolescents’ depression was affected (in the following order) by peer attachment, parent attachment, socially-prescribed perfectionism and other-oriented perfectionism. These variables helped account for 43% of female adolescents' depression. In conclusion, in the case of male adolescents, the higher the levels of self-oriented perfectionism, parent and peer attachment were, the lower the levels of depression and the higher the levels of socially-prescribed perfectionism were, the higher the levels of depression. In the case of female adolescents, the higher the degree of peer and parent attachment, and other-oriented perfectionism were, the lower the level of depression and the higher the level of socially-prescribed perfectionism, the higher the levels of depression.
