Abstract
Gogeumdo Island is located on the east side of the main island of Wando, and is surrounded by Joyakdo-Island to the east, Gunae-myeon of Wando-gun to the west, Shinjido-Island of Wando to the south, and Doam-myeon and Daegu-myeon of Gangjin-gun to the north. In addition to being close to the land, it is a location where it can control the surrounding sea routes. In addition, it was an island with its own supply capacity in terms of abundant seafood and grains produced from fertile agricultural land. These locational characteristics are believed to have served as an important background for Gogeumdo-Island to function as a base against foreign invasions. In particular, the strategic value of Gogeumdo-Island was clearly revealed through the Imjin War(壬辰倭亂). Admiral Yi Sun-shin, who won the Battle of Myeongnyang, led 8,000 sailors in February 1598 and moved the naval force from Gohado-Island in Mokpo to Gogeumdo-Island to build the final camp. Gogeumdojin(古今島鎭), along with Namdopojin, Geumgapdojin, and LeeJinjin in the southwestern coast of Jeollanam-do, played a key role in defending Japanese pirates, and it was abolished in 1894 after maintaining a central role in the naval force until the late Joseon Dynasty. Although such Gogeumdojin was a key facility of the naval force, there were no traces of the government office building or related relics, and no related relics were found in the excavation survey conducted in the past. Therefore, this study attempted to approximately estimate the location of the government building through comparative analysis with the current situation and the government building of the government building in Gogeumdojin, which is identified in the highland map, by synthesizing related data. As a result of the study, the space of Gogeumdojin is largely divided into two symbolic buildings called Gaeksa(客舍) and Dongheon(東軒), and it is understood that auxiliary facilities are located between these two areas. The entire area of Gogeumdojin is clearly divided into characteristics for each area, and these arrangement relationships are divided by topography and road. Dongheon is a functional location as a naval force, and Gaeksa has a symbolic meaning, and an auxiliary building is located between them. As a naval force facility due to the topography and road, it is difficult to see from the outside, and the view toward the sea is good, so the optimal location conditions for monitoring and supervision can be seen as a characteristic of Gogeumdo Island, which was a naval force.
