가족 의사소통 유형에 따른 청소년의 정치사회화 차이 연구

이 연구는 가족 의사소통 유형에 따라 청소년의 정치사회화에 어떠한 차이가 나타나는지 알아보기 위해 중․고등학생 520명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 지금까지의 선행연구에서는 개방적인 가족 의사소통이 자녀의 정치사회화를 높여주었다는 결과가 제시되었지만, 이 연구에서는 교육과 학업을 중요시하는 한국의 사회문화적 특수성을 적용한 가족 의사소통을 새롭게 제안했다. 따라서 가족 의사소통을 대화의 구조(개방적 의사소통 VS 폐쇄적 의사소통)와 대화의 내용(인성중심적 의사소통 VS 성공중심적 의사소통)을 중심으로 살펴보면서, 현재 우리나라 청소년 가정에서 부모와 자녀 간에 이루어지는 의사소통의 모습이 어떠한지 경험적으로 관찰했다. 연구결과 첫째, 가족 의사소통 양식에 따른 4개의 가족의 유형이 도출되었다. 그 중에서 부모와 자녀가 대화에 무관심한 <방임적 가족>의 유형이 가장 많은 수를 차지한 반면, 부모가 권위적이면서 학업을 중요시하는 <폐쇄적+성공중심적 가족>의 유형이 가장 적은 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 가족의 유형에 따라 자녀의 정치사회화의 모습이 각각 유의미한 차이가 나타나는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 부모와 자녀 간 의사소통이 개방적이면서, 학업을 강조하는 <개방적+성공중심적 가족> 유형에서의 자녀들은 정치참여, 정치효능감, 이견추구성향, 관용성이 다른 집단에 비해 높게 나타났다. 반면 <방임적 가족>의 자녀들은 정치효능감, 이견추구성향, 관용성이 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 부모와 자녀 간 대화가 원활한 가정에서의 학업과 성공 중심의 대화는 자녀에게 대체적으로 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 연구결과와 관련된 함의가 함께 논의되었다.
Abstract
This study examined the differences of adolescents’ political socialization based on the family communication patterns in Korea. A total 520 adolescents participated in the survey. In particular, this study suggested a new family communication pattern that emphasizes education and academic excellence in Korea. Family communication was measured in two aspects: 1) whether open communication exists or whether strict authority characterized communication patterns; 2) whether the parents focus on either personality oriented communication or success oriented communication. The result show that there are four family types based on family communication patterns. Additionally, it was found that the adolescents’ political socialization can be differentiated by family type classified according to family communication patterns. The adolescents in the open structure and success oriented communication family type showed a high level of capacity in terms of political socialization.
