Salt is an important substance or a basic material for the surviving of human. And salt is a food of a necessity in the life of the nation. The salt production of the boiling method had been used widely before the introduction of the sun-dried saltpans. The salt manufacture by a spontaneous evaporation(or sun-dried saltpan method) takes the place of the boiling method since 1947 at Bigeumdo, Sinan County, with the help of the local elites and saltpan technicians. Salt production has been needed the special skill and experience and many trained salt producers or saltpan workers. Oral life-history of the people who worked or working in saltpans shows not only their personal experience of salt production but also a phase of social structure of Korean society which represented in the process of modernization of Korea
