한국의 의례에는 공동체의나 개인의례에서도 동물희생이 널리 행해지고 있다. 특히 황해도 굿에서 사냥거리와 타살거리, 군웅거리는 제물을 마련하여 동물이 희생되어 군웅에게 받치기까지의 과정을 의례적으로 표현되고 있다. 따라서 이 논문은 황해굿을 중심으로 사냥에서 제물이 희생되고 의례적으로 사용되는 과정을 살펴보았다. 황해도 굿의 사냥거리와 타살ㆍ군웅거리는 동물공희의 의미의 의례를 해석하는데 유익하다. 사냥거리는 무가나 대담 등에서 수렵민의 산신신앙(山神信仰)과 잘 나타나 있으며, 제물은 산신이 내어준 것으로 감사의 의미와 살해된 동물에 대한 위령이나 속죄의식이 나타나있다. 산신거리에서 제물을 어르는 태도는 이러한 제물로 사용할 돼지에 대한 양의성(兩義性)에 기인한다. 동물공희를 동반하는 의례에 대한 해석의 어려움은 제물의 도살이라는 희생적인 죽음에 대한 과도기의 양의적 성격에 대한 상징적 의미에 있다. 동물희생 의례의 과정은 대상동물을 도살하고 이를 신령에게 바치고 참가자들의 공식으로 구성된다. 이러한 세 과정 중에서 일부분이 의례상 강조되면서 의례의 성격을 규정하는 중요한 요소로 이해하여 의례를 해석한다. 타살ㆍ군웅거리는 제물의 타살과 군웅 풀이와 사슬세우기가 강조되고 있다. 타살거리에서 제물의 타살이라는 죽음은 인간세계가 아닌 타 세계의 군웅과의 교감을 위해 동물의 영을 이행시키기 위한 성스러우면서도 폭력작인 작업이다. 또한 폭력과 제물의 해체는 이를 위한 제물의 영혼과 육체와의 분리과정으로 피와 심장이나 간 그리고 육신인 몸체를 각각 분리하여 이를 의례적으로 사용 한다. 특히 피는 군웅풀이에 사용하여 군웅의 원한을 풀어주는데 사용한다. 사슬세우기는 군웅에게 바치는 육신을 삼지창에 세워 바침으로서 군웅에게 공물을 제공하며, 인간의 의지를 수용하였음을 확인 하는 의례이기도 하다.
Abstract
Animal sacrifice is common in some Korean ceremonies, both collectively and individually. Exorcism rituals of Hwanghae-do, the Sanyang[hunting]-geori, Tasal[killing]-geori, and Gunwung[king]-geori, all prepare, sacrifice and offer animals to the king. This study observes this ceremonial process of the Hwanghae-do. The Tasal-geori and Gunwunggeori of Hwanghae-do exorcism is useful for explaining why animals must be sacrificed. The Sanyanggeori, which appears in war songs or heroic tales, presents a sense of the hunter folks’ belief in the mountain god. To demonstrate their sense of gratitude towards the mountain god, the hunter folks presented offerings by first, giving animals to certain people who in turn will kill the animal to pacify the soul of the killed animal and be forgiven for the act of killing. The fact that the offering is coaxed in Sanshingeori can be explained by such duality of meaning. It is difficult to truly interpret these ceremonies that involve animal sacrifice because of the ambivalence of the meaning of the killings, and therefore the sacrificial death of the animal. The process goes through three stages – the killing of the animal, the offering, and the [ ] of the participants, and one of these three stages is emphasized according to the character of a certain ceremony. In Tasalgeori and Gunwunggeori, the emphasis is on the killing of the animal and the raising of the spear. In Tasalgeori, the death of the offering is a sacred and violent practice that was believed to carry the soul of the animal to the other world. This was done to build a connection between the humans and the Gunwung’s of the other world. The animal being offered is violently dissected as a preparatory process for sending its soul. The blood, the heart or liver, and the body are separated and used ritually. The blood is used for Gunwungpuri, a ceremony observed to appease the broken heart of the king. A certain body part of the animal is placed on a spear and raised as an offering to the king. The king’s intention to accept the gift is then affirmed.
