Abstract

This study aims to analyze the vegetation structure of the forest in Mt. Bangtae, a domestic forest genetic resource conservation area and belonging to the WDPA, in order to provide basic data for conservation strategies and efficient management. A total of 55 survey plots were established and surveyed using the Braun-Blanquet method. The vegetation communities were classified into 4 clusters: Acer pseudosieboldianum-Acer pictum subsp. mono community (C1), Quercus mongolica community (C2), Abies nephrolepis community (C3), and Sasa borealis-Acer pseudosieboldianum community (C4). Statistical significance was recognized in environmental factors between clusters except for TPI(Topographic Position Index), confirming that each cluster possesses unique topographical characteristics. Species composition analysis revealed that Acer sp. such as A. pseudosieboldianum and A. pictum subsp. mono were growing in the valley, while subalpine woody plants such as Abies nephrolepis and Betula ermanii were evenly distributed. The Mt. Bangtae, genetic resource conservation area appeared in subalpine and temperate vegetation. Consequently, the distinct clustering of vegetation based on complex environmental factors suggests a patch mosaic distribution of vegetation. It is anticipated that ecotones between vegetation patches in the Mt. Bangtae, forest genetic resource conservation area are widely distributed, indicating a richness of biodiversity and maintaining a healthy forest ecosystem through ecosystem cycling. Therefore, continuous monitoring and observation of vegetation changes are necessary to formulate conservation strategies in the future.
