Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the effective conservation & management of the Baekdudaegan protected areaby underst&ing the vegetation structure of Mt. Yeongchwi, an ecological corridor connecting Mt. Jiri & Mt. Deogyu in the Baekdudaegan. A total of 31 survey plots (400 m²each) were established within the Baekdudaegan protected area, & vegetation surveys were conducted. The analysis revealed 4 clusters in Mt. Yeongchwi; :Quercus mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb.-Sasa borealis (Hack.) Makino (Com. 1), theQuercus mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb.-Carex humilis var. nana (H.Lév. & Vaniot) Ohwi cluster (Com. 2), Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hancecluster (Com. 3), & Quercus mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb.-Tripterygium regelii Sprague & Takeda cluster (Com. 4). There were statisticallysignificant differences in topographical characteristics such as elevation, Northness, slope, & rock exposure among the clusters (p<0.05). Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMS) ordination showed an overall explanatory power of 0.749, indicating the influence of prevailingspecies richness, species diversity, & altitude. The study area exhibited a typical secondary forest structure influenced by canopy cover. In particular, the prevalence of T. regelii within the canopy gaps was notable, & its correlation with Q. mongolica, a dominant speciesin the study area, suggests the need for continuous monitoring to address potential damage to tendril plants in the future (cut off R2=0.3).
