이 논문에서는 동아시아에서 창조성이 어떻게 정의될 수 있는지와 국가의 창조성이 개인의 창조성과 어떻게 구분되는지를 개관했다. 관용 혹은 개방성이 아시아 사회의 창조성과 서구 사회의 창조성을 구별짓는 중요 변수이라는 점이 논의되었다. 이를 설명하기 위하여 개방성이 어떤 방식으로 사회의 창조성을 높일 수 있는지에 대한 가설이 제시되었다. 사회의창조성은 개인의 창조성의 변산이 높아짐에 따라 증가하게 되는데, 개방성은 개인들의 창조성의 변산성을 높게 하기 때문에 사회의 창조성을 높게 한다. 이러한 논의에 근거하여, 아시아 사회에서 어떠한 방식으로 사회의 창조성을 증진시킬 수있는지에 대한 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines how creativity is defined in East Asian cultures andhow the notion of creativity is different from a societal to an individuallevel. It is argued that the society’s tolerance or openness to minoritygroups is one of the most critical factors that contribute to the differencesbetween Asian and Western creativity. A mechanism of how opennesshelps promote creativity in a society is proposed. Since openness increasesthe variance of individual creativities, the sum of individual creativitiesincreases as the openness level increases. Based on this discussion,methods are suggested on how creativity in Asian societies can bepromoted.
