Abstract

This study aimed to explore the potential for art mask design by combining the formative elements of Korean traditional masks with the material characteristics of hanjipaper, with the goal of a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Korean culture. The paper analyzed the symmetrical and asymmetrical features of traditional masks and used them as motifs, while the physical properties of hanji paper were utilized to create a total of four art masks. The results confirmed that sculptural objects can be effectively realized using hanjipaper as a single material, and that traditional formative elements can be extended into contemporary beauty and art practices. This research provides a meaningful foundation for exploring new directions in creative studies within the field of beauty art using traditional materials
