Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the sense of lightness and textural variation in medium graduati on hairstyles by producing design works that apply different thinning techniques. The research foc uses on line thinning performed using thinning scissors with 25, 30, and 35 teeth (25T, 30T, 35T). Three thinning methods—inner, root, and line—were applied with varying blade counts to create th ree versions of a medium graduation mid-length style, each expressing distinct degrees of thinning. The findings revealed that an increase in blade count corresponded to a reduction in texture densit y, resulting in a lighter and more dynamic silhouette. Line thinning showed clear textural differenc es depending on the number of blades. The 25T scissors maintained moderate weight with a smoo th finish while the 30T scissors achieved a balanced flow and structure. The 35T scissors produce d a distinctly lighter, airier contour. These results provide practical guidelines for personalized hair design that consider both thinning techniques and tool selection. Furthermore, this study demonstra tes the qualitative effects of thinning, offering educational value and contributing to the beauty ind ustry through enhanced client communication and the development of standardized technical manuals
