빅데이터 분석을 통한 한국 포털사이트의 라틴아메리카 관련 뉴스 보도 행태 연구: 브라질과 멕시코 관련 기사를 중심으로

21세기에 접어들며 한국 사회에서 라틴아메리카지역에 대한 관심이 점증하면서 언론 전반에서 라틴아메리카 여러 국가들과 관련된 보도량이 증가하는추세를 보이고 있다. 하지만 언론학, 커뮤니케이션 연관 학문 분야뿐만 아니라지역학계에서도 대 라틴아메리카 뉴스 보도 행태와 관련된 선행연구는 거의전무한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 빅데이터 분석기법들을 활용하여 우리나라포털 사이트의 라틴아메리카 관련 뉴스 보도 이슈를 파악하면서 방법론적 확장을 시도한다. 이를 위하여 본 논문에서는 2018년부터 2019년까지 2년간의네이버, 다음의 브라질과 멕시코관련 최근의 포털 뉴스 텍스트 데이터를 분석하여 양국에 대한 보도 트렌드를 텍스트마이닝(Text mining), 의미연결망 분석(Semantic network analysis) 및 구조적 등위분석 (CONCOR; CONvergence of iterated CORrelations) 을 통해 규명한 다음, 브라질과 멕시코 관련 뉴스 보도주요 이슈와 경향을 비교 고찰하였다. 연구 결과로는 다음과 같은 사항들이도출되었다. 브라질과 멕시코 관련 뉴스의 상위키워드 기반 구조적 등위분석을 실시한 결과 이슈별 세부적인 주제는 상이하나, 양국의 주요 뉴스 이슈는스포츠, 경제, 환경 그리고 정치 분야로 수렴하였음을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 브라질은 스포츠, 특히 축구 관련 기사의 빈도수가 상대적으로 높았고, 멕시코는총격, 치안, 카르텔과 같은 범죄 관련 기사의 비중이 다소 높았다. 본 연구는기존에 연구되지 않았던 소셜 미디어 뉴스에 보도된 라틴아메리카 관련 기사를 빅데이터 분석방법을 통해 방법론적 확장을 시도했다는 점에서 의의가 있다고 사료된다.
Abstract
As interest in the Latin American region is gradually increasing in present-day Korean society, there has been a growing trend in the volume of media coverage associated with Latin American countries. Nevertheless, previous literature on the news coverage on Latin America has not attracted scholarly attention, not only among the fields of journalism and mass communication, but area studies as well. By examining issues related to the news coverage on Latin America in the Korean portal websites, this study seeks to achieve a methodological development through a series of big data analyses. To this end, this article analyzes the news text data associated with Brazil and Mexico produced between 2018 and 2019 in the Naver and Daum websites, taking advantage of text mining, semantic network analysis and CONCOR (CONvergence of iterated CORrelations) analysis, and examines and compares the main issues and trends of both countries. Research findings are as follows. Although the detailed topics of each issue were different between news related to Brazil and Mexico, as a result of the abovementioned analyses, both countries’ major news issues converged in the areas of sports, economy, environment, and politics. However, the Brazilian case showed that the frequency of news articles associated with sports, football in particular, was relatively high, while the proportion of news articles related to crime, such as shooting, security, and the drug cartel, was rather high in the Mexican case. This study is greatly important in that it pursues a methodological expansion through big data analysis of Latin America-related news articles reported on social media that have not been previously studied.
