초록
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing walking and its significance among socioeconomically vulnerable individuals who lack sufficient economic and social resources for exercise in urban areas. Methods: Employing photovoice methodology, this study sought to interpret the characteristics of the research participants and the context of walking. Ten individuals from B Metropolitan City experiencing vulnerability in terms of income, assets, and housing were selected as subjects. The study used the data collection process inherent in Photovoice, wherein participants captured photographs and shared their stories through individual interviews. Results: Participants perceived walking as an exercise with minimal economic and physical burden, serving as a means to reduce transportation expenses, utilize leisure time, socialize with neighbors, and improve mood. Facilitating factors included the presence of social service providers, doctors' recommendations, pedestrian-friendly environments, and assistance from supportive tools. Barriers included non-pedestrian-friendly environments and social perception issues. Conclusion: This study sheds light on the meaning, facilitators, and barriers of walking among urban vulnerable populations from a contextual perspective.
