Abstract

Purpose or Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of disability acceptance in the relationship between family support and life satisfaction of people with disabilities, which affects the independent living of people with disabilities, and to determine whether the relationship between family support, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction differs according to gender groups. Method: To this end, the data of 4,558 people in the 5th year (2022) of the Disability Life Panel were analyzed with a structural equation model to examine the relationship between family support, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction, and a multigroup analysis was conducted to determine whether there were differences between gender groups. Results: First, family support had a positive effect on disability acceptance and life satisfaction, and disability acceptance had a static effect on life satisfaction. Second, disability acceptance was found to be partially mediated between family support and life satisfaction. Third, as a result of the multigroup analysis according to gender, it was found that the male group had a higher degree of disability acceptance than the female group to affect life satisfaction. Conclusion or Implications: It is significant in that it reveals the importance of disability acceptance and family support that must be considered to improve the life satisfaction of people with disabilities.
