Abstract

Purpose or Objectives: This study aims to identify the optimal model for predicting employment retention among workers with disabilities using machine learning algorithms. Additionally, it seeks to explore key variables contributing to employment retention based on the derived model. Method: Using data from the 7th year of the second wave of the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (PSED), the study analyzed 1,462 individuals. Sixty-five explanatory variables influencing employment retention among workers with disabilities were selected. Machine learning was applied using Orange 3.36.2, employing eight algorithms (decision tree, random forest, gradient boosting, AdaBoost, SVM, artificial neural networks, Naive Bayes, and kNN) to determine the optimal predictive model and to explore the importance of explanatory variables. Results: The gradient boosting algorithm was identified as the optimal predictive model for employment retention among workers with disabilities. The most critical explanatory variable was regular employment status, followed by job information, household factors, demographic factors, employment activity factors, vocational ability factors, disability and health-related factors, and employment system factors. Conclusion or Implications: The findings are expected to serve as foundational data for developing new policies and programs to enhance employment retention for workers with disabilities.
