Abstract

Christians living in the post-modern period should be able to view the world and its cultures with multi-perspectives. It will help us to understand the world we are living in and to change it in a biblical way. Likewise, Approaching the issue of health at different perspectives will bring us to promoting the health of people in a more holistic way. In the modern medicine, different modalities to deal with mental and physical diseases have been developed, that even includes psychosocial interventions. However, christianity and the applications of its contents, that have traditionally been considered to be effective and well accepted in handling diseases among the believers , were relatively neglected and treated as a non-scientific method for preventing and treating diseases. In the current article, the author showed the association of mental health and social relationship among general people with physical health using articles published in scientific journals. Christian lifestyles such as participating in the church worship, private prayer, and bible reading appeared to greatly influence physical health among the church goers in a health promoting way. It seemed that the christian lifestyles affect the physical health through improved mental health and strengthened social support among the practitioners. This finding was also explained theologically. Holy Spirit can affect cognition, affection, and volition of christians through its power, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, which is closely associated with positive mental health and social relationship. It is, then, logically possible to mention that Holy Spirit may affect the physical health of the christians by promoting mental health and social support. In a word, the holistic change of health among the christians take place through "Unio cum Christo" and "Duplex Gratia". Implications of the findings were addressed.
