칼빈의 설교자 이해: 『교회법령』(1541)과 목회서신 강해설교를 중심으로

이 논문은 종교개혁 500주년을 맞이하여 칼빈의 설교자 이해를 탐구한다. 16세기 종교개혁은 하나님의 말씀의 설교를 통한 교리와 삶의 개혁이었다. 동시에 이 설교는 설교자의 인격을 통한 사역이었다. 따라서 오늘날 한국교회의 부끄러운 자화상을 개혁하기 위하여 설교가 절실하게 필요할 뿐만 아니라 설교자의 인격이 무엇보다도 시급하게 요청된다. 최근 들어 칼빈의 설교관에 대한 다양한 연구들이 진행되는 것은 매우 고무적인 일이다. 하지만 목회서신의 강해설교에 나타난 설교자의 인격에 대한 칼빈의 설교자 이해는 전무한 형편이다. 본 연구를 통해 우리는 칼빈이 작성한 『교회법령』(1541)과 그의 목회서신 강해설교에 나타난 목회자에게 요구되는 여러 가지 자질들을 살펴보았다. 그의 설교자 이해는 오늘날 우리에게 교회의 갱신과 개혁을 위해 네 가지 시사점을 제공한다. 첫째, 목회자의 인격과 자질들 가운데 가장 필요한 덕목은 겸손이며, 가장 피해야 할 악덕은 탐욕이다. 이것은 사람의 힘으로 되는 것이 아니라 그리스도와 연합하여 성령의 지배를 받는 삶이다. 둘째, 목회자의 소명에 관한 시험과 검증을 강화해야 한다. 특히 성경의 교리와 경건한 삶을 철저하게 검증하는 필요하다. 그렇지 않을 경우 교회는 혼란에 빠질 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 셋째, 목회자의 선택과 임직은 교회의 규례를 따라 시행되어야 하므로 목회자들은 목회자 임직에 따른 의무와 책임을 교인들에게 교육할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 목회자의 임직 후 목회자의 직무 수행을 위하여 교리적 측면에서의 정기적인 설교세미나 개최와 생활의 측면에서 상호권면과 경계를 위한 시찰회 기능의 부활이 절실하게 필요하다. 한국교회의 실패는 목회자의 실패이며, 목회자의 실패는 칼빈의 설교자 이해에 부합하여 실천하지 않는데 그 근본 원인이 있다.
Abstract
This article is to investigate Calvin’s understanding of preacher’s personality in celebrating Reformation 500 years. Reformation in the 16th century is a reformation of doctrine and life by preaching God’s word. At the same time, this preaching is a ministry through preacher’s personality. Therefore what we need mostly to reform Korean Church that is in shame, is not only preaching God's word but also preacher’s personality. Recent decades it is very encouraging that various studies on Calvin’s preaching and ministry have been performed. However there is no studies about Calvin’s understanding of preacher delivered his preaching on the Pastoral Epistles. This study investigates various elements required of preachers by Calvin in both Ordonances ecclesiastiques (1541) and his sermons on the Pastoral Epistles. His understanding of preachers offers four implications for the reformation of Korean Church today. First, the most required virtue of preacher is humility, and the most avoided vice is covetousness. This can be achieved not by human endeavor but by the life governed by the Spirit, united with Christ. Second, the exam and verification of the calling to the minister of God should be intensified. In particular it is needed to check thoroughly scriptural doctrine and pious life of preachers. Otherwise the Church cannot be fall in disorder. Third, the election and ordination of minister should be administered according to the Church Order, and the ministers need to teach people preacher’s duties and responsibilities required by ordination. Fourth, after the ordination of minister, for the sake of right administration of preacher a regular preaching seminar should be held in respect of doctrine and the function of classis giving advice each other is mostly recovered in respect of life. The failure of Korean Church is the failure of preachers, and the failure of preachers is basically originated from neglect of Calvin’s understanding of preacher.
