본 논문은 한반도 통일을 이끌어 내기 위한 동력으로서의 통일신학 형성에 그 목적을 둔다. 분단 70여년이 말하듯 남과 북의 현격하게 다른 현실적 차이를 극복하며 하나가 되는 일은 엄청난 정신적, 이념적, 동력을 필요로 한다. 어떠한 정치적, 철학적, 이념도 아닌 오직 하나님의 말씀만이 한반도 통일의 동력이 될 수 있다는 확신으로 논의에 임한다. 본 논문은 반틸의 존재론 논의 중의 하나인 “하나와 여럿”의 문제를 피조적 현실의 한계에 적용해 봄으로써 남과 북의 차이가 얼마나 큰지를 이해하는 작업을 하였다. 구체적으로 공화제와 민주제, 자본주의와 공산주의, 자유와 평등, 등의 해소되지 않는 차이가 “하나와 여럿”의 존재론적 한계를 반영하고 있음을 논하였다. 통일이 어려운 것도 바로 “하나와 여럿”의 존재론적 한계와 연관이 있음을 이해하기 위해 반틸의 존재론 논의가 크게 도움이 된다. 존재론적 한계에도 불구하고 성경은 “한 새 사람”(엡 2:15)을 이루라고 한다. 이 구절은 우리가 존재론적으로 적용할 수 있는 명제가 아니라 교회를 통해 구현되어야 할 실천적 과제이다. 여기에서 우리는 실천의 차원에서 이루어야 할 통일이라는 대업을 가능케 할 정신적, 이념적 동력을 찾는다. 교회는 그리스도인들이 이 땅에서 하나와 여럿의 갈등을 극복하도록 부름 받은 미션이다. 그렇다면 진정한 의미에서 교회를 세우는 것이 무엇인지 아는 그리스도인들에게 우선적으로 통일의 사명이 있을 뿐만 아니라 그리스도인들부터 우선적으로 통일의 사명을 가져야 한다는 것이 본 논문이 제안하는 바이다.
Abstract
An objective of this paper is to construct Unification Theology in order to better facilitate unification of Korean peninsula. As illustrated by the separation over 70 years it demands tremendous power, morally as well as ideologically, to overcome the drastic difference between North and South and be united as one again. Our conviction is that it is the Word of God alone that is to be power and engine for the unification of Korean peninsula rather than any political or philosophical geniuses. This paper unpacks one of all time ontological puzzles the “one-and-many” problem treated by Cornelius Van Til in order for us to understand the differences between North and South. The paper addresses the differences between repubicanism and democracy, capitalism and communism, liberty and equality, to better understand that the creaturely reality is confined by the ontological limit of the “one-and-many” problem. Thanks to Van Til’s ontological insight we better understand how hard it would be for North and South to be united as one nation. Despite the ontological limitation, the Bible mandates us to make “one new person” (Eph. 2:15). This verse is not about us ontologically making one person but fulfilling it by building the church of Christ on earth. Therefore, it is a practical and missional task than an ontological one. Here in this verse we find a moral and ideological justification to realize the unification of Korea. The church is a mission to those called by God to overcome “one-and-many” conflicts on earth. Then, in the truest sense, it is with Christians who know what it is like to build the church on earth the task of unification. Therefore, it is Christians first who should take up the task of unification. It is the heart of Unification Theology proposed by this paper.
