Abstract
W.P. Brown defines the Psalms as a “verbal temple” where God meets with his people. Because the book of psalms contains countless author and their memories of God’s salvation that transcend time. And the community shares those memories by reading and listening to the psalms. Moreover, these memories lead the community to meet God. This is the reason why the psalms (also Psalter) can also be identified as a “temple in words.” Among the temple-related psalms scattered in the psalter, psalm 30 is distinctive. Because the title of Psalm 30 is “a song of the dedication of the house”. Except for the title, no direct terms relating to the temple in Jerusalem are found in this psalm. In other words, the title of psalm 30 leads this psalm to a temple theological understanding. In addition, The title of Psalm 30 plays the role of a hermeneutic frame that connects with the preceding psalms 29 and allows them to be interpreted in a temple-theological sense. Finally, it reveals that the title of Psalm 30 is a literary device connecting the dedication of the Tabernacle in the wilderness to the dedication of the Jerusalem Temple in the period of the united monarchy. Therefore, in this paper, the temple-theological meaning of Psalm 30 and the temple-theological understanding appearing in the arrangement with Psalm 29 are to be confirmed, focusing on the title of Psalm 30. Finally, a meaning of the title of Psalm 30 in relation to the Old Testament is examined.
