가발라의 세베리아누스는 4-5세기 초 요한 크리소스토무스와 함께 콘스탄티노플에서 활동했던 주교다. 둘은 안디옥 학파에 속하며, 세베리아누스는 요한에게 영향을 받았다. 따라서 두 인물의 성경 해석을 함께 비교하는 것은 당시 안디옥 학파의 성경 해석과 성경 이해의 폭을 넓히는데 도움을 준다. 그러나 두 인물의 성경 해석에 대한 비교 연구는 그 동안 관심을 받지 못했다. 본 연구는 세베리아누스와 요한의 설교와 주석들 중 에베소서를 어떻게 해석하고 이해하고 있는지 살펴본다. 이전 연구는 에베소서 1장을 다루었고, 본 연구는 남은 에베소서 주석 2-6장을 다룬다. 세베리아누스의 성경해석은 단어를 중심으로 그 의미를 엄격하게 구분한다. 이는 안디옥 학파의 성경해석 전통에 따른 것이다. 그는 바울의 의도를 분명하게 드러내기 위해서 노력한다. 이를 위해 상징을 도구로 사용하기도 하며, 모형과 원형의 관계를 통해 해석을 하기도 한다. 또한 그는 당시 존재했던 다양한 사본들의 이문 속에서 무엇이 더 나은 해석인지 제시한다. 세베리아누스는 마귀, 율법, 교회, 성령에 대한 주제들을 다루고 있다. 마귀는 공중에 머물고 있는 악한 존재로서 성도들의 연약함을 통해서 힘을 얻는다. 율법은 유대인들을 이방인의 우상숭배에서 보호하기 위한 담의 역할을 한다. 그리스도께서 이 담을 허셨고, 유대인과 이방인이 하나가 되게 하셨다. 세베리아누스는 아담과 하와의 관계를 통해서 그리스도와 교회의 관계를 설명한다. 하와가 아담으로부터 나와 아담의 살과 뼈로 불렸던 것처럼 교회는 그리스도로부터 나와 그리스도의 몸의 지체를 이룬다. 아담이 하와와 결혼한 것처럼 그리스도는 교회의 신랑이며, 교회는 그리스도의 신부이다. 또한 성령은 하나님의 말씀이고, 하나님이시며, 성도들의 기도를 돕는 분이다.
Abstract
Severian of Gabala was a bishop who worked in Constantinople with John Chrysostom in the 4th and early 5th centuries. Both belong to the Antioch school, and Severian was influenced by John. Therefore, comparing the two figures' interpretation of the Bible together helps expand the scope of the Bible interpretation and understanding of the Bible by the Antioch School at the time. However, comparative studies on the two figures' interpretation of the Bible have not received much attention. This study examines how Ephesians is interpreted and understood among the sermons and commentaries of Severian and John. The previous study covered chapter 1, and this study covers the remaining chapters 2-6 of the commentary on Ephesians. Severian's interpretation of the Bible strictly distinguishes meanings based on words. This is in accordance with the tradition of biblical interpretation of the Antioch School. He tried to clearly reveal Paul's intentions. To achieve this, he sometimes used symbols as tools and made interpretations through the relationship between the type and the original type. He also suggested which interpretation was better among the various manuscripts that existed at the time. Severian dealt with topics such as the devil, the law, the church, and the Holy Spirit. The devil is an evil being hovering in the air and gains strength through the weakness of saints. The law serves as a wall to protect Jews from the idolatry of Gentiles. Christ broke down this wall and made Jews and Gentiles one. Severian explained the relationship between Christ and the church through the relationship between Adam and Eve. Just as Eve came from Adam and was called Adam's flesh and bones, the church comes from Christ and becomes a member of the body of Christ. Just as Adam married Eve, Christ is the bridegroom of the church, and the church is the bride of Christ. Also, the Holy Spirit is the Word of God, is God, and is the one who helps saints in prayer.
