최근 주목받고 있는 플립 러닝의 본질은 방과후 활동의 형태로 학생들이 수업 전에 수업내용과 관련된 학습을 미리 해오는 것을 가정하고, 수업시간에는 수업 내용에 대한 교수자의 강의보다는 학습자간 상호작용과 학습자와 교수자간 상호작용을 통하여 미리 학습해온 내용에 대해 확인하고 보충 및 심화학습을 수행하는 것이다. 본 예비조사연구의 목적은 플립 러닝의 기본 개념에 대해 이해를 도모하고 플립 러닝 모델을 수업 현장에 적용하는 실질적인 교수 디자인을 모색하는데 있다. 이에 30명의 학생이 참여한 대학 교양 영어 수업에 한 학기 동안 플립 러닝이 진행되었다. 플립 러닝이 영어 글쓰기 과정에 참여한 학습자들의 만족도와 학습관련 태도에 미치는 양상을 조사하기 위해 학기초에 배경조사와 학기말에 설문지 조사를 하였고 심층분석을 위해 포커스 그룹 인터뷰도 함께 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 동영상 강좌를 이용한 자기주도적 학습은 학생들의 만족도가 비교적 높게 나타났고, 수업중 실시된 그룹별 협동학습에 있어서는 플립 러닝의 기본개념과는 다르게 만족도가 낮았다. 개방형 질문과 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 통해 학생들의 만족도를 보다 심층적으로 분석한 결과, 온라인 플랫폼의 선별적인 사용과 면대면 상호작용과 온라인 상호작용의 결합이 필요함이 드러났다.
Abstract
A flipped learning approach has gained much interest lately because of its process involving prior study followed by the students’ active engagement, which direction matches that of the current educational policy that highlights self-directed learning. This preliminary study aims to investigate the concept of flipped learning and explore ways to develop instructional design models that utilize it. Specifically flipped learning was implemented in an English writing class involving 30 university students who contributed to wiki pages over a period of 15 weeks. As for out-of-class preparation and prewriting activities, video lectures were designed to support a self-directed learning to grammar competence that is required for writing in English. Completed drafts as in-class activities are posted on wikispace and exchanged for peer feedback and revision exercises. Using qualitative data, the findings reveal that, in an educational context, technologies including wikis and video lectures are perceived differently and this may result in students’ varied satisfaction toward a flipped learning.
