Abstract

This research investigated the ‘grotesque’ body shape and its meaning which are characteristic of the novel by Danjae, Chae-Ho, Sin. In Danjae’s novels, the body does not exist separately from the mind, and the body is in a position to represent the mind. The disturbing body shape and the surprises of transformation, such as Characters' odd physical modification, transformation and appearance of doppelganger, By understanding the inner complexity of human beings, Eventually it is a figuration of the anxieties and introspection of human existence in the unjust reality of colonialism. This is the aspirations toward freedom of Danjae, exiled intellect, and the desperate gesture of self-innovation for salvation. This literary figuration is a mirror that reflexes the social contradiction of colony beyond individual dimension, working as the exit to break the reality. However, characters, unlike the heroes who saved their country, are not sewed up as an ideal figure. This autonomous indeterminacy is indeed the radical characteristics of revolution that Danjae's novels shows.
