Bodies are given meanings and recorded in Korean modern novels. What we need to focus on is not their meanings but the way of expressing them. Forms of body-expressing in modern novels have its own features. At this point, we need to focus on three major features. First, the body as reality. What was needed for Korean classic novels to develop into modern novels was reality. Realism novels describe the body as the most crucial subject. Second, the viewpoints creating the body. The discourse on the body is created by these viewpoints. The viewpoints can either overestimate or underestimate the body. Those viewpoints cross one another. This creates formal realism. Third, the individualization of the body. It creates internal forms of modern novels. This can be called as form of quest.
