Abstract
We investigated the relationships among employees’ perception of the family supportive work environment, perception of control over work, satisfaction with work-family balance and two behavioral outcomes. We collected data from 230 supervisor-subordinate dyads in 12 organizations and analyzed the data with structural equation model. The perceived organizational family support of the family supportive work environment showed a positive effect on satisfaction with work-family balance. The perceived supervisor’s family support of the family supportive work environment was proved to have positive relationship with control over work but not with satisfaction with work-family balance. The results of further analysis showed that perception of control over work mediated the relationship between perception of family supportive work environment and satisfaction with work-family balance. Furthermore, satisfaction with work-family balance showed a negative effect on withdrawal behavior and a positive effect on contextual performance. In all, the relationship between family supportive work environment and behavioral outcomes was mediated by perception of control overwork and satisfaction with work-family balance. On these results, we discussed the implications and limitations of our study and suggested the direction for future research.
