본 연구의 목적은 국내기업의 R&D 노력이 기술혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 밝히는데 있다. 기술혁신이 기업의 생존 및 발전에 있어서 필수불가결한 요소로 인식되어지고, 기업의 R&D 노력은 미래의 성장 동력으로써 간주되어왔다. 그 결과 많은 연구들이 기업의 R&D 노력이 기술혁신성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되어 왔으나 실증분석의 결과는 혼재되어 있는 것이 사실이다. 본 연구는 과학기술정책연구원(STEPI)에서 제공하는 2008년 제조업에서의 기술혁신활동조사표를 이용하였다. 기업의 기술혁신과 R&D 노력을 두 가지 유형(제품혁신, 공정혁신; 내부적, 외부적 R&D 노력)으로 이용하였으며, 분석대상 중에서 일부 높은 혁신성과를 달성기업의 분석에 적절한 분위수 추정을 사용하여 다양한 혁신성과를 가진 기업들에게 R&D 노력의 효과를 측정하였다. 분석결과를 보면 기업의 내부적 R&D 노력이 혁신과 제품혁신을 종속변수로 이용하였을 때 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 반면에, 공정혁신에는 유의적인 영향을 미치지 않고 있음이 나타난다. 또한 분위수 추정을 이용한 경우에서는 기술혁신달성정도가 높은 기업일수록 내부적 R&D 노력이 미치는 영향이 크게 나타났다. 특히, 높은 제품혁신성과를 달성한 기업일수록 기업의 내부적 R&D 노력이 미치는 영향이 일반적으로 크게 나타났지만 공정혁신의 경우에서는 어떠한 유의한 결과가 도출되지 않았다.
Abstract
The Purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Korean firms' R&D endeavor on technology innovation performance. It has been acknowledged that innovation is a crucial factor for firms' survival and development and it is considered a necessary engine for firm growth. As a result, many studies have examined the effect of R&D, but the empirical studies do not consistent results. This study used the 2008 innovation activity table provided from STEPI. Technology innovation is categorized as product innovation and process innovation in this study, and quantile regressions for including some firms for having high innovation performance are used to investigate the effect of R&D on product innovation, process innovation, and both. The empirical results show that internal R&D positively affects technology innovation and product innovation while it does not to process innovation. And in using quantile regressions, internal R&D positively affects in high product innovation performance while there is no significant effect in process innovation.
