Abstract
Sales promotion types are divided into price off and value added according to the framing effect. Previous studies on the effects of the two types of sales promotion are inconsistent. The purpose of this study is to verify the moderating effect of product type and purchase justification in the effect of two types of sales promo- tion of price off and value added on purchase intention. As a result of the experiment, the interaction effect between the sales promotion type and the product type was significant. In the case of pleasure goods, price off sales promotion was more effective. However, in the case of practical materials, there was no difference between the two types of promotion. The three way interaction effects between sales promotion type, product type, and purchase justification are as follows. When purchase justification was presented, in the case of pleasure goods, it was found that price off sales promotion was more effective than value added. However, in the case of practical goods, there was no difference between price off and value added sales promotion types. These attempts provide practical implications for the im- plementation of sales promotion to marketing practitioners.
