Abstract
Today, energy conservation and greenhouse gas reduction are becoming big issues worldwide in the road transportation sector. Continued traffic jams in the roadway segment are affecting the traffic management function because they reduce traveling speed of vehicles and traffic capacity. Also, irregular driving patterns lead to rapid acceleration/deceleration of vehicles. These result in excessive fuel consumption and may even cause traffic accidents. In this study, an eco-driving pattern for greenhouse gas reduction is proposed to solve the aforementioned problems. The authors analyzed, fuel consumption and CO_2 emissions according to driving patterns. The fuel consumption and CO_2 emission increased with the driving patterns related to vehicle speed increase, including rapid starting and acceleration. The analysis results showed that steady-speed driving can reduce fuel consumption and CO_2 emission by 12.6% and 12.8%, respectively.
