본 연구는 대중교통 접근성이 고령운전자의 면허 자진반납과 교통사고로 인한 사회적 비용에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 교통사고분석시스템(TAAS) 자료를 활용하여 교통사고로 인한 사회적 비용을 측정하고, 이에 대해 회귀분석을 시행하였다. 연구 결과, 대중교통 접근성이 좋은 지역일수록 고령운전자의 면허반납률이 증가하며, 교통사고로 인한 사회적 비용이 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 대중교통 인프라가 고령운전자의 이동성 확보와 교통 안전성 향상에 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 시사한다. 이에 본 연구는 고령운전자의 안전을 강화하기 위한 정책적 대응 방안을 제안하였다. 특히, 지역별 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 정책을 도입하여 고령운전자의 이동권과 안전을 동시에 확보하는 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of public transportation accessibility on elderly drivers' voluntary license return and social costs of traffic accidents. To achieve this, data from the Traffic Accident Analysis System (TAAS) were used to measure social costs of traffic accidents, and regression analysis was conducted. The results indicate that higher public transportation accessibility is associated with an increased likelihood of elderly drivers surrendering their licenses and a reduction in the social costs of traffic accidents. This suggests that public transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring the mobility and traffic safety of elderly drivers. Based on these findings, this study proposes policy measures to enhance elderly driver safety. In particular, region-specific policies should be introduced to simultaneously ensure the mobility and safety of elderly drivers.
