和歌와 俳諧에 나타난 ‘오보로(朧)’ 고찰

Abstract

This paper mainly analyzes ‘oboro(朧, dim)’ and ‘oborozukiyo(朧月夜, hazy moon)’ in waka and haiku and examines the transformation of the images of these concepts. ‘Oboro’ is a phenomenon in which everything seems blurry due to water vapor in spring. ‘Oboro’ has evolved as a poetic diction that evokes the image of hidden landscape. We cannot find the hazy moon but the clear and bright autumn moon in Manyoushu. In the Heian period, Oheno Chisato, citing a phrase of Bai Juyi in China, composed a poem praising the beauty of moonlight, neither the brightness nor the cloudiness. Since Ohe’s waka had been cited in Genjimonogatari, the hazy moon evolved into a ‘fantastic’ and ‘sensory’ image. Since Shinkokinshu, the hazy moon had often been recited in waka and consequently became an implicit season word of a classical image in the haikai literature. Especially nowadays, the meaning of ‘oboro’ has extended to the synesthetic season word of visual and auditory senses. ‘Oboro’ has become the basis of ambiguity in haiku aesthetics.
